Overview

How attention is important to communication

The attention is the channel we used to send and receive messages from human to human. It's like a bridge from one mind to another mind.

This is the quote from book The fifth agreement, it say how attention works during perceiving. The author also mentioned that attention is the limited resources we used for transforming outer information to our own, what we call it as "listen" during communication.

How to let people feel own attention?

Eye contact and an active mindset are the keys to let people feel us are listening.

When people are talking things, simply look at their eyes and node during the gap. This is the most fundamental thing during conversation. Have you ever feel uncomfortable when you were talking and that person didn't look at you? This rule may applies to everyone, even introvert people. They also need attention, may be even more.

Also, try to understand what people are talking. In the beginning, this might be hard for you. If you don't understand what people were talking, that's ok, simply ask them to explain generally, they will be happy to do it for you.
