“Most adverb are unnecessary.” — William Zinsser
Most people use adverb to emphasise the meaning when writing subconsciously. What they didn’t realize is using adverb doing the opposite way help reader understand. The adverbs carry same information with the verb. People may write like: “The sales increased dramatically”. Instead, good writer use precise verbs. they say “The sales escalated.”
“Make active verbs activate your sentences.” — William Zinsser
Don’t use passive style, it doesn’t help with speaking clear. Passive style needs extra words. e.g. The show was performed by Alan” & “Alan performed show”. Extra words seperate attention. Using active to keep sentence tide. It emphasised the meaning, and makes reader’s life easier.
“Short is better than long.” — William Zinsser
Overall, Preciseness and activeness keep sentences clean. Using accurate verb removes adverb. And using active style emphasised the meaning. Writing clean declutter writer’s mind, just like doing meditation. It removes unnecessary things in people’s life. People speak with clarity also have higher income and social status.
